Is it rare for triple negative breast cancer to return after 5 years?
I would only prefer accurate answers from people who actually know about this cancer.

Below is a very promising new treatment for triple negative cancers.
Another good site on triple neg and recurrence is: http://www.breastcancer.org/symptoms/types/ask_expert/2008_07/

That is what I recall our oncologist said. There is a lot of information on triple negative breast cancer. Ours was stage 2B with three lymph nodes involved.
Our oncologist Dr.Rinn told us that it is rare for it to return after five years, I remember her saying that to us. We just need to make it to five years.
One day at a time.

The most likely period for recurrence of any cancer is in the 3 to 5 years after initial diagnosis. After that point, the frequency of recurrence gradually declines, then at the 15 or 20 year mark it becomes similar to a person who never experienced cancer.
Recurrence rates reflect trends in large populations, but are not predictive of individual outcomes. Every former cancer patient should undergo regular medical evaluation and imaging to detect recurrence. They should also be taking all follow-on medications prescribed by their physician.

For most cancers, after 5 years, risk of recurrence is low. For ER+ breast cancer, rates nearly always remain high, even after 10-15 years- there is a constant 1-2% risk of relapse.
For triple negatives, it is quite rare to recur after 5 years.
Blessings
