Sunday July 3rd the First Sunday Arts Festival returns to Calvert and West Streets in downtown Annapolis from noon to 5pm. This monthly free summer festival is expected to bring around 7,000 people to downtown Annapolis to be immersed in the arts.
The Streets and parks along Calvert and West streets at the July 3rd festival are filled with over 100 artisans, live music performances, magic shows, street performers and an international selection of outdoor cafes. The festival starts on Calvert street next to the Whitemore and Gotts parking garages and wraps around the block to West Street ending at Church Circle.
The entertainment schedule for the day includes Ashley Forrest from 1-3pm at Whitemore Park on ?Calvert Street. Having just completed recording the core of her debut country album titled CAN?T WAIT, 22-year old singer and songwriter Ashley Forrest has been performing throughout the mid-Atlantic region. Singing since she was three years old, Forrest?s genre flexibility and guitar acuity have made her popular with all age groups. Her performances are a must-see-n?hear for the entire family before she starts touring nationally in 2012.
Hailing from that quaint seaside sailing village in Maryland, Annapolis? own ?Ben?s Bones,? have been playing their exciting brand of acoustic rock at many of the area?s best clubs for over eight years. They?ve opened for well-known bands such as the Gin Blossoms, Jerry Jeff Walker, Dick Dale, The Presidents of the United States of America and The Church. Frontman Dan Haas has recorded with members of the Barenaked Ladies and Guster. Dan Haas with Ben?s Bones ?will be playing from Noon to -1:30 at Wiseman Park next to the visitors center.
Performance return to Weisman Park in the afternoon with the ?Tom Lagana Quartet. Tom Lagana is one of UMBC?s very own jazz instructor?s. Critics have been raving about his upcoming album release ?Schematic? featuring George Garzone. Jazz fans are sure to line up to see them from 3:30 to 5pm.
Magic will be in the streets with The Magical Worlds of Jack Julius Live Stage and Illusion Show at 1 next to Stan and Joes. Fear not if you miss this stage show as he will be strolling the streets and parks till 4pm ?showing off his magic tricks.
Plus for the early birds check out the indoor entertainment at Ramshead Tavern and 49 West coffehouse both hosting a Jazz Brunch stating at 11am.
As always there is free parking for this event at the State Parking Garage on the corner of Calvert and Bladen Street, located just about a block away from the start of the festival. More information can always be found at www.firstsundayarts.com
