Apple patent hints at true wireless charging

Apple patents are constantly floating around the web. Most of the time, they detail a new feature, or a change in hardware that won?t see the light of day for at least a few years, if at all. And, to be perfectly honest, most of them aren?t all too exciting. Though, every once in a while a potential Apple product comes along that really seems compelling. This is one of those times.

A recent report out of Geek.com details an Apple patent for a wireless charging system. And yes, we?ve seen wireless charging before on devices like the Palm Pre, but that was nothing like this. Most of the wireless charging solutions currently available employ the inductive charging method. That means you must place the device on a specially designed charging pad. So, while you don?t need cables, your phone is still basically out of commission while it?s powering up.

Apple?s method, though, solves that problem. The patent describes a system of charging that doesn?t require you to rest your phone on anything ? just be near it. How cool would that be?! Your phone can automatically charge itself the moment you step into your bedroom. Never again would you wake up to a dead phone, having forgot to plug it in? or place it on the mat, for that matter.

Now, don?t get your hopes up too high. Most of the Apple patents we see never really amount to anything. However, with that being said, my hopes are up pretty high. I would love something like this! Do you guys agree? Let me know your thoughts in the comments section below, or on twitter.
