Kenneth becomes major hurricane in Pacific

(AP) ? Forecasters say Hurricane Kenneth has strengthened even more into a Category 3 storm in the eastern Pacific, although there is no current threat to land.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said Tuesday that Kenneth has become a major hurricane with maximum sustained winds near 125 mph (205 kph). The storm was centered about 710 miles (1,145 kilometers) south-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California, Mexico, but was moving away from the coast.

It is moving west at 12 mph (19 kph)

Kenneth could strengthen more before weakening on Wednesday. There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect.

The eastern Pacific hurricane season ends Nov. 30.
